titles

in our visual exercise crit, we also discussed titles for the specific image we brought in that day. some people had some really bad ones, and some really good ones that i would have never thought about for my work. again...got me thinking!
here's the image i brought in:

here's what other's suggested [in order of how much i liked it-first being best]:
  • [year place was built] - [year closed]
  • come in, make yourself comfortable
  • white air disturbed
  • we used to be a family
  • home #1
  • [un]welcome
  • the blue room
  • door to ____
  • midwest abandon
  • abandonment
  • intruder
  • open door
  • lonely windows

  1. Let me explain my title suggestion a bit more. (year built-year closed) I think that seeing something such as 1876-1997 will give the buildings and spaces a human quality. You see this type of thing on tombstones and the like and it gives you an idea of the kind of life that person lived, how old they grew to be and what time period they grew up in. The years the building existed or was in working order will give the buildings a sense of personality and individuality. woo

  2. when i look at that, i expect to see someone on the other side of that door. like, a man standing there, or someone sitting on a stool. it seems like a "finally!" moment, like the viewer has been trecking and searching for so long and "it" is right behind that door. Like this moment, the moment before you see what's behind it, is one to savor.
